First Annual PGConf Silicon Valley Wrap Up

The first annual PGConf Silicon Valley conference was a big success thanks to the speakers, attendees, sponsors, and Conference Committee who came together to create a lively, engaging experience for everyone at the event. The conference attracted a standing room only keynote session crowd with over 260 registered attendees. Attendees traveled from four continents and more than ten countries to attend.

Umur's Keynote

The conference kicked off Tuesday with a day of tutorials presented to over 130 attendees. Tuesday night featured a well attended and interactive PostgreSQL community reception at the aptly named Brass Elephant lounge which was co-promoted by PGConf Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area PostgreSQL Meetup Group.

Wednesday started with keynotes from Citus Data, Confluent, and Pivotal discussing topics including PostgreSQL scalability, Apache Kafka, and the Postgres license and the future of RDBMS. We were pleased to announce our plans to open source CitusDB 5.0 in the first quarter of 2016, which was welcomed by a round of applause.

Breakout sessionBreakout sessions filled the remainder of the day thanks to the Conference Committee, chaired by Josh Berkus, which sorted through nearly three times as many submissions as available breakout session slots. We added a fourth breakout session track to allow as many sessions as possible and still had to turn away some very strong proposed talks. The breakout sessions featured a great lineup of speakers from organizations including TripAdvisor, Urban Airship, Square, Heap, AWS, Rackspace, 2nd Quadrant, and Pivotal with the most popular talks generating standing room only crowds. Check the PGConf Silicon Valley website for speaker slides and video recordings of the sessions - all the available keynote, tutorial, and breakout session videos are now posted along with many speaker slide decks.

Sponsor boothA special thanks goes out to the conference sponsors, without whose support the event would not have been possible:

Platinum:  2ndQuadrant, Pivotal, Citus Data

Silver: Amazon Web Services

Bronze: VividCortex, EnterpriseDB

Exhibitors: PGExperts, Consistent State, Rackspace

Media: Datanami, Database Trends & Applications

We could not have put on a successful event without the organizations which did such a great job managing the conference logistics, facilities, audio visual, and great food including the South San Francisco Conference Center, Ireland Presentations, Carleson Production Group, and Tricord.

Please enjoy the PGConf Silicon Valley video recordings as they become available and plan to join us in 2016 for the second annual PGConf Silicon Valley PostgreSQL conference! We will post another blog in the near future regarding the financials for the conference.
