Not all Postgres connection pooling is equal

Many databases can benefit from connection pooling with PgBouncer even if they already have connection pooling setup at the application level. This can begin as early as 10s of connections to your database, and is critical when you have several hundred connections. Here, Craig explains the benefits of PgBouncer.

CREATE STATISTICS, the Postgres feature you didn’t know about

Configuring memory for Postgres

This post gives good guidance on how to tune memory in Postgres. At its surface, the work_mem setting seems simple: after all, work_mem just specifies the amount of memory available to be used by internal sort operations and hash tables. And yet, leaving work_mem unconfigured can bring on a host of issues.
